Pin cushion??

Not many people know what it's like to be a pin cushion. Me? I know what it's like, I have known what a pin cushion is like since I was 3 1/2. Yep I was dx'ed with type one diabetes than. From day one I have had shot's, finger drawn blood and once a year blood work, oh and don't forget about pump site change every 3 days.

There are day's I wish I just wish I could switch lives with someone for a day! I dislike diabetes and everything that comes with it!! Some days one site change or one shot is just not enough, when your high and can't come down than you need a site change and a shot sometimes. And having both done at the same time makes you feel like you really are a pin cushion.

When I was born, my parents never though their only daughter would be dx'ed with type one diabetes at a young age. They never though that I would just about become a pin cushion. I hate that everyday I have to get checked or think about what I eat or what I am before I eat! Its it fair? No, but it's life and till there is a cure, this is life for diabetics.

Before I was 10 I was getting 3 shots a day, sometimes more. And bring on the shot is feel like your worse than a pin cushion. I used to cry when I had to have a shot. But than again what kid don't cry when they get a shot or sometime. When I was 10 I got the pump which is just about like shot but better. I only have to change it every 3 days and you don't have to get a shot every time I want to eat.

There are some day's when I feel like I want to give up like not do anything any more, no check no shots no nothing but I know if I do that I might not live long and I want to live a long a healthy life!

Hopefully one day there WILL be a cure so no diabetic will ever have to feel like a pin cushion like I do sometimes and I'm sure other diabetics feel the same way.

Till next time

  1. Sending you lots of hugs from a mom of two kids with type 1 diabetes. You are doing a great job with writing it all out and being an inspiration to many other kids that feel the same way. Keep up the good T1D work and don't let the diabetes monster win!
